OriGen Biomedical Dual Lumen Catheters
The OriGen Dual Lumen Catheter is produced in size 12F, 15F
and 18F. Each catheter is supplied with a blunt introducer in
the venous lumen and a self-sealing vent plug in the arterial
lumen.

Technical Description
Blunt Introducer
A blunt introducer is supplied for direct introduction via cutdown.
Where a guidewire is not utilized when placing the catheter,
a blunt introducer can reduce risk of dissection or vessel puncture
from using a sharp, pointed introducer. A percutaneous introduction
kit is available separately (see below).
Arterial Vent
A self-sealing vent plug in the arterial line connector purges
air when introduced into the vein. No need to clamp arterial
line during insertion and add weight to the catheter.
Reduced Recirculation
Supply and return holes are positioned away from each other
rather than directly opposed. This design has been shown to significantly
reduce recirculation (Reference
Abstract) and can minimize effects
of tissue aspiration. Outflow holes are arranged to jet blood
away from catheter.
Constant diameter tip
Solid, radiopaque polyurethane tip. Constant size from tip to
Y; no sleeve over inserted portion to hamper insertion into the
vein.
Tip Cross section
2 to 1 area ratio: The large (drainage) lumen has approximately
twice the area of the return (arterial)lumen
Packaging
Catheters are supplied sterile and non-pyrogenic. Catheters
are available individually, and are singly packed in a Tyvek
pouch. Guidewires and introducers originally packaged with each
catheter, are now packaged separately.
Percutaneous Introducer kit
Because most users place the catheter by cutdown, the items
needed for percutaneous introduction have been moved to a separate
package. One kit (Item number 'PCTa')is used for all sizes of
the OriGen catheter, and is available where introduction over
a guidewire is desired. Each kit contains the necessary sharps,
guidewires and dilators to safely introduce the catheter.
A guidewire swapping dilator is included in each kit to facilitate
changing from a small guidewire to the larger 0.035" guidewire
easier. Percutaneous kits are packed individually, and are sterilized
with Ethylene Oxide. To download the PCT Instructions for Use,

Placement Recommendations:
The picture below represents ideal placement of the catheter
tip in the right atrium: Extended well into the right atrium
so the Arterial return holes are pointed at the Tricuspid Valve.
If only it were this easy.

Size Recommendations:
The following size recommendations are from Dr.
Giles Peek:
- 12F
cannula: patients 2 to 5 kg
- 15F cannula: patients 4 to 8 kg
- 18F cannula: patients 7 to 12 kg
Final selection of the cannula size is dependant on the size
of the IJV in each particular patient, along with other physiological
factors
