Wood Treatment Industry Links

Is Wolmanized wood safe around people, plants, and pets? Here's a link to the Hickson Corporation position on safety of CCA wood. This page has further links to test reports on CCA wood. Keep in mind when reading, that it was not until 1995 that the effects of acid leeching arsenic from CCA wood began to be studied. Some mention of CCA ash toxicity.

This is a copy of Consumer Information Sheet which is attached to each bundle of CCA treated wood. Provided at the Hickson Corporation website.

Home page of the American Wood Preservers Institute (AWPI). Very detailed information about the product and the process.

In 1997 the TV program 'HardCopy' aired a report on CCA lumber in playground equipment. The Wood preservers took exception to this, and AWPI issued this Response to HardCopy program.

CCA Recycling and Disposal

Recommendations for Disposal of CCA wood from Environmental Builders. Lengthy discussion of landfill and disposal options.

A company with a process to extract arsenic and heavy metals from CCA wood Claim to recycle CCA wood. It is a process of carbonizing and centrifuging the arsenic and heavy metals out. Looks like it would be a workable solution, maybe expensive. At least the arsenic would be in concentrated form.

Don't throw CCA wood chips in your Compost.

CCA Wood in Gardens

The University of Arizona conducted a 1994 test on the use of CCA wood in Gardens. Their brief Report discounts migration of the arsenic very far from the wood location, which is a relief.
