OriGen Biomedical believes the future of regenerative medicine depends on the next generation of scientists, engineers, and innovators who are driven not only by intellectual curiosity but also by a commitment to improving lives. This year, we are proud to recognize Anshuman Garg as the recipient of the 2026 OriGen Biomedical STEM Scholarship.
Anshuman graduated as Valedictorian of Westwood High School in Austin, Texas, earning an exceptional 5.9813 GPA. This fall, he will attend Yale University, where he plans to study Biomedical Engineering and Economics. Throughout his scholarship application, Anshuman demonstrated an impressive understanding of regenerative medicine, thoughtful consideration of its future, and a passion for using scientific innovation to address some of healthcare’s most complex challenges.
From the moment our scholarship committee reviewed his application, it was clear that Anshuman possesses not only exceptional academic ability but also a genuine curiosity about the future of medicine. His accomplishments in the classroom are matched by an impressive commitment to scientific research and a desire to tackle some of healthcare’s most complex challenges.
Through his research at the Singh Laboratory at Georgia Tech, Anshuman has studied age-associated changes in B lymphocytes, investigating how aging affects the immune system at the molecular level. This experience has strengthened his interest in regenerative medicine and reinforced his belief that the future of healthcare lies in developing therapies that address disease at its source rather than simply managing symptoms.
In his scholarship essay, Anshuman explored how advances in stem cell research, gene editing, and personalized medicine have the potential to transform the treatment of chronic diseases. He was particularly inspired by the promise of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), which could allow scientists to create patient-specific therapies while overcoming many of the challenges associated with traditional stem cell approaches.
He wrote:
“Current treatments manage the downstream consequences of cellular loss rather than addressing the loss itself, but stem cell therapy represents the most promising path toward actually solving that problem.”
Beyond the science itself, Anshuman also emphasized the importance of ensuring these medical breakthroughs are available to everyone who needs them. He believes that innovation and accessibility should go hand in hand—a perspective that reflects the values OriGen Biomedical strives to uphold every day.
Looking ahead, Anshuman hopes to continue researching immune aging and regenerative medicine while at Yale, ultimately contributing to therapies that improve outcomes for patients around the world.
